For when you have to Cater for More than Just Family

I have a cause/project that I would like to host a fundraiser for, I am thinking an event with drinks, food and live entertainment.

I think I would be able to pull in a lot of favors to get the above for very little to no cost. BUT the one thing I'm not sure about is where an affordable location would be.

Has anyone thrown an event, party (reception or anniversary) at a location that ended up being fairly affordable and cost effective that many people would overlook as an option?

I know every town/city is different, but are there certain places in the community someone might not think of? This could be indoors or outdoors.
